Position: Family Support Worker, Compass Family Resource Center PDF Print E-mail

Organization: Compass Family Services helps homeless and low-income families find their way out of the cycle of poverty and

homelessness.  Our services include intake and referral to shelter, emergency shelter, transitional housing, rental assistance, and childcare—in addition to a broad spectrum of counseling, parenting education, prevention, and support services.

Program: Compass Family Resource Center helps parents create brighter futures for their children through parent education classes, support groups and outreach.

 

Reports to: CFRC Program Director

Exempt status: Non-exempt

Responsibilities:

· Plan and facilitate parent education, parent/child interaction groups, and parent meetings in English and Spanish.

· Plan recreational activities and groups for families.

· Assist program director with development and outreach activities as needed.

· Coordinate and conduct intakes and assessments of new clients.

· Maintain caseload of families for intensive, short-term individual case management, counseling, and support with primary focus on the relationship between the caregiver and child.  Sessions will be conducted in the office, field and in the clients’ homes.

· Provided social service referrals on behalf of clients and help them to take advantage of those resources, offering practical assistance as necessary and appropriate.  Follow up on referrals.

· Provide individual counseling and crisis intervention as needed.

· Maintain client records and chart and report on goal achievement.

· Collaborate with other Compass programs staff on shared cases and facilitating internal referrals to services.

· Attend weekly program meetings and report on project activities.

· Participate in professional development activities such as workshops, seminars and conferences.

· Maintain confidentiality of client information.

· Attend weekly supervision sessions with program director and maintain open communication regarding all aspects of the project.

· Participate in community collaborative projects such as Safe Start’s service delivery team.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree or relevant experience

· Two years of counseling/case-management

· Knowledge of social service resources

· Counseling skills

· Understanding of issues facing homeless families

· Outstanding work habits:  punctual, reliable, cooperative, team-oriented

· Ability to work independently
