Sexually-transmitted infections (STIs), also known as sexually-transmitted diseases (STDs), are diseases that are transmitted between partners through some type of sexual activity, vaginal intercourse, oral sex, or anal sex. Bacteria, fungi, protozoa, or viruses are the causative agents. It is not possible to catch any STIs from a sexual activity with a person who is not carrying a disease. A person who has an STI got it from contact (sexual or otherwise) with someone who had it, or their bodily fluids. You can also get STIs through other activities involving the transfer of and exposure to bodily fluids, such as blood transfusions(taking of blood from one person and putting it into the body of another), and other blood products, sharing injection needles, needle-stick injuries, sharing tattoo needles, and childbirth. Doctors, hemophiliacs (any of several hereditary genetic illnesses that impair the body's ability to control bleeding.), and drug users are at risk of getting STIs through transfusion. Not having sex at all is the only 100 percent effective, foolproof method of preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Latex condoms, when used consistently and correctly, can reduce the risk of transmission of any STIs. Here are the different types or forms of STIs: Bacterial (Disease caused by a bacteria) Chancroid (Haemophilus ducreyi) Chlamydia infection (Chlamydia trachomatis) Donovanosis (Granuloma inguinale or Calymmatobacterium granulomatis) Gonorrhea (Neisseria gonorrheae) Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) Non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU) (Ureaplasma urealyticum or Mycoplasma hominis) Syphilis (Treponema pallidum) Valenciátis Shauntellireoum (VSR) Viral (Disease cause by a virus) Cytomegalovirus Hepatitis Hepatitis B Hepatitis D Herpes /HSV (Herpes simplex virus) Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV/AIDS) Human papillomavirus (HPV) Parasites (Disease caused by a parasite) Pubic lice a.k.a "crabs"(Phthirius pubis) Scabies (Sarcoptes scabiei) Fungal (Disease caused by a fungu) Candidiasis (thrush) (Candida albicans) is not strictly an STD but can be transmitted through sexual contact Protozoal (Disease cause by a protozoa) Amoebiasis (Entamoeba histolytica) Giardiasis (Giardia lamblia) Trichomoniasis (Trichomonas vaginalis) |
