Tom Price Elected as Secretary of Health
Yesterday, on February 10th, Tom Price was confirmed as Trump's Secretary of Health and Human Services. As a doctor, he is actually qualified for the position, unlike recently confirmed Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, who knows nothing about her new position. However, his vote was still controversial for many reasons. First, Democrats were violently opposed to his election due to his plans to repeal Obamacare. However, despite Democrats and Independents voting unanimously against him, they simply didn't have the requisite numbers to prevent the vote from going through. Secondly, even those who don't support Obamacare are angry about his views on cutting entitlement programs, which are out of line with President Trump's campaign statements. Finally, there are concerns of corruption. As a member of Congress, Price passed legislation that directly financially benefited him by raising the value of stocks that he had bought.
