FanimeCon 2017: A Review

Many people use Memorial Day weekend as a holiday to take a day off from work, relax, and honor those who have served in the U.S. Military. However for me and other anime fans in the Bay Area and beyond, it's the time of one of the biggest anime conventions of the year: FanimeCon.

FanimeCon spans Memorial Day weekend and lasts four days, from Friday to Monday. This year the con had a Hogwarts-esque witching and wizarding theme, with a cute light brown owl as the mascot.

For those unfamiliar with the concept of an anime convention, it's basically a congregation of fans of anime and manga. Many people interested in comics, cartoons, and videogames also attend. Fans usually dress up as their favorite fictional characters, called "cosplay". Some cosplays are simple-- others are extremely detailed.

The two main attractions of Fanime are the Dealer's Hall and Artist's Alley. The former sells official, liscenced merchandise, while the latter is full of booths by independent artists who sell their art on prints, charms, stickers, and more.
