Thanksgiving meal will cost more this year

Are you planning on having Turkey this thanksgiving? Did you know prices are rising in grocery stores? Thanksgiving 2021 could be the most expensive meal in the history of the holiday. CNN reports that turkeys are going for $1.36 per pound, meaning a 16-pound turkey will be around $22. Your whole thanksgiving meal is looking to cost more this holiday season.

Sides such as apples, biscuits, potatoes, and mixed vegetables are going up in price. CNN reports Potatoes have gone up in price by 3.5%, Potatoes by 4%, Mixed vegetables by 3.8%, and apple pie by 7.8%.

Why are there higher prices? Well, the supply change snags. Adding on, there are increased demands, labour shortages, high transportation costs, and bad weather. CNN is suggesting to shop early before these changes take place.

Granted, last year, the cost of a Thanksgiving dinner for 10 was the lowest it had been since 2010, according to the American Farm Bureau, but because of the pandemic, fewer people bought for big gatherings, and turkey prices were kept low to entice shoppers. This year, turkey prices are likely to hit record highs, and the cost of many foods has jumped sharply.

So, this holiday season, get your wallets ready and head over to the grocery store before these changes take effect.
